Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB’s) have been used extensively throughout industrialization and beyond as they were perfect for electricity, coolants, hydraulics, flame retardants, plasticizers, and sealants. The commercialization and use began during the 1920’s and 1930’s with commonly well-known substances such as Aroclor. Although the use of this chemical ranged from many different industries it’s specifications remained quite similar with it being a colorless to light-yellow oily liquids or solids. Ranges of polychlorinated biphenyl were dependent on how much chlorination the oily liquid had been succumbed to.

As the use of polychlorinated biphenyls was massive there were a few disasters which sparked outrage about the chemical substance. There were certain contaminations which received heavy scrutiny from the public as there was massive harm which could arise from PCB contamination in the environment.   3. Times Beach, Missouri, USA: In the early 1970s, waste oil contaminated with PCBs was sprayed on roads to control dust in the small town of Times Beach.
